Das Haupttouristengebiet von Baku ist die Altstadt, genannt Icheri Sheher und eine UNESCO-Weltkulturerbestätte, mit ihren Sehenswürdigkeiten aus dem Mittelalter. Innerhalb der befestigten Festung Bakus gibt es eine Reihe von interessanten Orten. Der mittelalterliche Palast der Shirvan Shahs ist das Highlight der Altstadt und ein Muss für jeden Touristen in Baku.
